Tankless hot water heaters can save you a lot of water in areas of the home where you need instant hot water. Most tankless water heaters work on the premise of heating water with an electric element in a unit that's placed, close to the tap outlet. This way you're not waiting for the water to heat up.

So, for example, if you your kitchen tap is a long way from your conventional hot water system and you're wasting water waiting for the temperature to heat up, a tankless water heater would save you flushing this perfectly good water down the drain.

Ask your plumber about tankless water heaters for prices and availability.

If you've still got one of those massive shower heads that wastes truck loads of water, then it's time for an upgrade. You can pick up a water saving shower head these days for as little as $20 from Bunnings and they're a cinch to install. Most of the time you can just unscrew the old water waisting shower head and screw on the fab new water saving shower head. So what's stopping you?

Old style inefficient showerheads can use as much as 20 to 30 litres of water every minute while a AAA rated water saving one will only use around 9 litres of water per minute. You won't just be saving water either, you'll save energy as you'll be heating less hot water.

Go on, go buy a water saving shower head now!

The Chili Pepper saves the water that normally runs down the drain while you are waiting for the water to get hot, saving thousands of liters of water per year.

The Chili Pepper pumps hot water from your water heater to the tap. The initial cool water is circulated back to the cold water inlet of your hot water service. When the water at your tap is at the desired temperature, the Chili Pepper switches off - turn the hot tap and you get nothing but hot water.

No one is importing Chili Pepper in Australia at the moment. Evergreen in Melbourne will have an Australian version in late January 2010.
